In a landmark move, California lawmakers have approved a bill to decriminalize psychedelics, including magic mushrooms.

Senator Scott Wiener’s Senate Bill 519, which decriminalizes the possession and personal use of certain psychedelic drugs will be voted on next year. San Francisco Supervisors Dean Preston and Hillary Ronen introduced legislation that would decriminalize use and possession of psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, MDMA, DMT, and Mescaline.

Activists staged a demonstration outside of the Drug Enforcement Administration headquarters in Virginia, demanding that the agency allow terminally ill patients to access psilocybin therapy. The Protest was meant to call attention to DEA’s obstruction of Right to Try statutes at the federal and state level that patients and advocates say should facilitate legal use of psychedelics.

The latest states to join us on our quest for consciousness freedom are Florida and New Jersey, who have taken the next steps in clinical trials of entheogens. Oregon also just officially decriminalized all drugs and replaced jail time with a $100 fine for public possession or intoxication, along with a health assessment for addiction and mental health issues, which seems like a healthier step in the right direction.

Detroit has joined the growing number of cities and states that have decriminalized entheogenic plants and fungi, known as “magic mushrooms” and psychedelics. Voters, including the city’s incumbent mayor who won a re-election, passed Proposal E on Tuesday night to decriminalize entheogenic plants and fungi.

Another Massachusetts city has approved a measure to deprioritize enforcement of laws against the possession, use and distribution of a wide range of psychedelics such as psilocybin and ayahuasca.

On February 18th 2021, A Democrat from San Francisco, California introduced a bill to decriminalize psychedelics on a state level. Senator Scott Wiener introduced Senate Bill 519 to decriminalize certain psychedelics in the interest of public health and safety and to address the failed War on Drugs.

A Florida bill would legalize magic mushrooms and give patients safe access to psychedelics for psychedelic assisted psychotherapy. The bill was introduced after similar initiatives in Oregon and Washington D.C. were passed in 2020. Grieco was proposing legal access as well as consumption of psilocybin mushrooms. In Florida, access will be limited to people with a diagnosis of a mental health condition. That would mean limited legal access to mushrooms for psychedelic assisted psychotherapy for military veterans with PTSD and terminally ill patients.

The decriminalization of entheogenic plants in Ann Arbor has sparked a movement in Michigan, as the new Washtenaw County prosecutor Eli Savit, decides to stop prosecuting individuals that are in possession of psychedelic plants and fungi.

The MORE Act has passed in the house just two days after the United Nations decides to remove cannabis from the list of The world's most dangerous drugs. Many think the MORE Act should be amended due to certain restrictions that prohibit felons from being able to enjoy the benefits of legal cannabis recreationally, medically, or economically.

In Canada, a new ePetition (e-2534) is gaining traction to decriminalize psychoactive plants, backed by the group Decriminalize Nature Canada.

This November, Oregonians will vote on The Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment Initiative. Measure 110 would reclassify personal and non-commercial drug possession offenses. Possession of a controlled substance in Schedule I-IV, such as heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamines, would be reclassified from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class E violation resulting in a $100 fine or a completed health assessment.
