The Nations Capital Just Decriminalized Hallucinogens
Washington D.C. Approves Initiative 81, The Entheogenic Plants and Fungus Measure, putting an end to the investigation and arrest of people that grow and consume psychedelic plants and fungi including ibogaine, DMT, mescaline, and psilocybin mushrooms. Personal possession and donating entheogens are also among law enforcement's lowest priorities.
Initiative 81 passed with just over 170,000 votes, making the District of Columbia the first to vote on a ballot measure related to multiple entheogenic plants and fungi and the second jurisdiction to vote on a ballot measure related to psilocybin. Several cities have already passed resolutions through their local governments to decriminalize psychedelic entheogens and Oregon has voted to decriminalize All scheduled narcotic drugs and to use legal cannabis taxes to expand addiction treatment services. The initiative also calls for the D.C. Attorney General and the U.S. Attorney for D.C. to stop the prosecution of ongoing cases related to non-violent offenders engaging with entheogenic plants and psilocybin mushrooms for personal use.
