Democrats Work With Republicans To Give Patients Access To Psychedelics

Democratic senator, Cory Booker, and Republican Rand Paul collaborated on a new version of the “Right to Try” bill called the “Right To Try Clarification Act”. The Right to Try Clarification Act is a proposed law that would clarify the right of terminally ill patients to access experimental therapies, such as psychedelic-assisted therapy. This right is currently protected by a federal statute called the “Right to Try Act.”

This revised language states that the DEA must allow dying patients to use Schedule 1 substances, like MDMA and psilocybin, once they’ve completed phase 1 clinical trials. The bill guarantees terminally ill patients access to experimental psychedelic therapies without the fear of incarceration. Called the “Right to Try Clarification Act,” the new law seeks to amend the limitations of the existing “Right to Try Act,” which notoriously excludes patients from utilizing investigational drugs that are also Schedule 1 controlled substances including but not limited to, Psilocybin Mushrooms, LSD, MDMA, Peyote, Ayahuasca and more…

This bill was introduced To clarify that the Federal Right to Try law applies to schedule I substances for which a phase I clinical trial has been completed and to provide access for eligible patients to such substances pursuant to the Federal Right to Try law.
